Transcriber's remarks:

The Preface of this book states (in part): "In nearly every instance the material composing the sketches was gathered from those immediately interested, and then submitted in type-written form for correction and revision." In addition to the biographical information, the book contains portrait drawings (with tissue protectors) on heavy stock of a number of individuals. The information it contains should probably not be taken as primary source evidence since it may or may not have been based on accurate documentation. Still, there is a suggestive credibility in the precision with which dates are cited. Non potes semper capere quod aves.

Regarding COLLINS as follows:

There are thirteen (13) Collins entries in the Index of this book. However, there are only three (3) separate biographical entries and all three are posted here.

There are ten (10) Index entries for Collins which reference the entry COLLINS FAMILY (Amos M., Atwood, Charles, Edward, Erastus, Mary F., Morris, William, William E., and William L.)

There are two (2) Index entries for Collins which reference the entry TIMOTHY C. COLLINS (Timothy C. and Cornelius)

There is one (1) Index entry for Collins which references the entry JOHN COLLINS (John)

Regarding COWLES as follows:

There are fifteen (15) entries in the Index of this book. However, there are only ten (10) separate biographical entries and all ten are posted here. One of these (see Site Index, Family of Cowles) is taken from an article titled "Family Tree of Captain C. D. Cowles, U. S. A" which appeared in a volume titled Histories and Records of Southington and Wolcott - no publisher or date given.
